BLENDING PRACTICE. A key component to learning how to read is BLENDING! If a child cannot blend (blend individual sounds together to read the word) they will not be able to read. At first, children say each sound and then blend to read the word. To make children into fluent readers, they need a lot of blending practice as the aim is that they will be able to read words by sight.
