The aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CV-3) was sunk after a second, underwater atomic bomb test during Operation Crossroads in July 1946 at Bikini Atoll, having survived the initial air blast test. Mortally damaged by the Baker test, she sank eight hours later from structural damage and radioactive flooding.
